The Transport and Toy Museum
This intriguing collection of over 70,000 items is the result of one man's dream and 50 years of dedication. The late owner, Gerald Rhodes, was employed by International harvester before going into his own car and truck wrecking business. Naturally enough he found himself in the right places to pick up bargains. But it also required many years at auctions, flea markets and garage sales, as well as responding to newspaper adverts and word-of-mouth tip-offs to bring together a fascinating range of items.
Don't miss seeing this unique and fascinating collection that has grown to over 70,000 items, the Wanaka Transport and Toy Museum is one of the largest private displays in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a varied collection – from tiny children's toys, including a huge range of Barbie Dolls, to unusual motorcycles and rare cars, trucks, fire appliances and aircraft. Kids will love our interactive pedal cars, plane and anti aircraft guns plus our picnic and playground area.
