Forty minutes from Wellington is the only known café built from straw bales and not a wolf in sight! There is a children’s playground with a wave slide, sandpit, giant building blocks and petanque, and an indoor play area. The Short Straw Café prides itself on its healthy children’s meals and has an ever changing blackboard menu, plus homemade cheesecake and gluten free cakes.
There is something for everyone at the Lone Star and portions are generous. The children’s menu features meals like Road Runner Special and Barney’s Ribs and includes a free ice cream for dessert, while adult can choose from seafood, beef, lamb and much more! Crayons and colouring in sheets will keep the children entertained while they wait and highchairs are provided.
Dining is a unique experience in this family friendly restaurant. Help yourself to your choice of meats, vegetables and sauces and the chef will cook your meal right in front of you on a gas fired barbecue. Meals are reasonably priced and include soup and a selection of meats and vegetables. A minimum charge of $8 applies.
Located in the Wellington City Library, Clarks is a counter service café with great food and coffee.
