Tauranga is coastal Bay of Plenty’s main centre and a popular
holiday spot for backpackers. Set on the waterfront, Tauranga is a very
walkable city, rich in cultural history and abundant in beaches, bush
and birdsong.
Tauranga is a vibrant city of cafes, bars, and
restaurants not to mention an extensive selection of shops for the
serious shopper. 2400 hours of sunshine per year makes Tauranga the
second sunniest city in the country. Nearby Mt Maunganui’s magnificent
surf beach and Tauranga’s extensive inner harbour makes this a water
sports paradise. The pristine sandy beaches at Mount Maunganui are
excellent for surfing, kitesurfing, blowkarting, windsurfing,
water-skiing, fishing, or kayaking.
The YHA Tauranga hostel is close to the Airport so you can have a go on the flight simulator.
Just
a short distance from the Tauranga hostel you can take a two hour loop
walk on our local estuary boardwalk and do some bird watching. The
Tauranga airport is also nearby where you can take advantage of the
stunning views whilst experiencing the thrill of piloting a plane
yourself, tandem skydiving or a ""Mash"" helicoptor ride.

Visit Mt Maunganui’s long golden beach and enjoy a good surf, swim or other water sports activity.
See some stunning views over Bay of Plenty, either from the
top of the Mount, from the cockpit of a plane or while falling through
