TAURANGA, COROMANDEL AND WAIKATO REGIONS

Tauranga - the largest town in the Bay of Plenty is a popular weekend destination for Aucklanders, and is only 3 hours drive from the city. Home to the busy Port of Tauranga, NZ's preferred export gateway, the foreshore is vibrant with activity. The marina is home to pleasure craft and boats offering dolphin watching or diving trips. Just 10 minutes drive away, over the harbour bridge, is Mount Maunganui, often known simply as 'The Mount'. This region is the best local beach resort and is regarded as the satellite town to Tauranga. The Mount, known in Maori as Mauao, is a volcanic cone, 232m high. It's joined to the mainland by a sandbar, on which now sits the whole resort of Mount Maunganui. This gives visitors a calm harbour beach on one side, and a beautiful, sandy surf beach on the other.

Coromandel - Under two hours drive from Auckland brings you to the remote world of the Coromandel Peninsula. Framed by native Pohutukawa trees on the western side, beautiful white sandy beaches on the east and divided by ranges cloaked in native rainforest, the Coromandel’s 400kms of coastline offers the visitor a truly distinctive blend of experiences.

Waikato - The Waikato, dominated by the winding Waikato River, is a region of lush, green hills, bush and farmland, plus the world famous West coast surf and Raglan township. The region's main city is Hamilton - a growing and ever more vibrant city situated on the banks of the Waikato. Throughout the region discover rivers and waterfalls, hot mineral pools, beaches and, of course, the magical limestone glowworm caves in Waitomo. Charming small towns are dotted throughout the region, each one with its own specialities. Centrally located approximately 90 minutes from Auckland, Tauranga and Rotorua, the region can be a base for any holiday in the Central North Island.
