The tour is a fun and interactive exploration of the environment of New Zealand's oldest prison.  Its history includes tales of fascination for all ages, including hangings, ghosts and escapees.  The prison now operates as backpackers' accommodation.  This adds interest to the tour as you see some of the cells still being slept in!

SCHOOLS
Whether local, national or from overseas, Napier Prison can cater the tour to your school, sports or interest group. Children can get locked up in a cage or a cell, see where murderers were executed and hear about the secret tunnel, ghosts, and the lighthouse.
The tour starts outside the prison gates, some of the tour is outside (main gate, graveyard, exercise yard) and some is inside/covered (cells, remand cages), so is partly weather dependent. We can cater for groups of up to 30 per tour guide and have several tour guides available.  One adult per 10 children minimum.
