Create and simulate your own earthquake with a computerised simulator! This hands-on interactive educational centre makes learning about the earth’s volcanic forces easy and fun for all ages. Located in the heart of the Taupo Volcanic Zone, the centre brings the past and present volcanic and geothermal features to life with wall displays, live geyser shows, a tornado machine and a cinema. Visit the shop afterwards for souvenirs and their lava lollypops.

Orakei Korako is only accessible by boat which runs on request throughout the day (the fare is included in the admission fee). There are boiling hot springs and mud pools to view and the Ruatapu Cave which extends 120 ft down to a hot pool. The Silica Terraces which form the base of the Geyserland and Thermal Park are believed to be the largest of their kind and the Thermal Park has the greatest number of active geysers in New Zealand. There are plenty of bush walks to enjoy and the shop and café open all day for refreshments and souvenirs.
