A fantastic outing for the family - aMAZEme features a giant hedge maze plus other activities. Try to find the centre of the maze by following 1.4km of winding hedge-lined pathways. You'll get lost and have loads of laughs! There are a series of escape doors through the maze so you can always make a quick exit. While you're here, visit our aviary, small animal petting enclosure and Monarch butterfly house. Toilets on-site, open 7 days, weather permitting. Located very close to Rotorua, 500m off State Highway 5, next to Agrodome.
Rotorua Aquatic Centre, which is right next to Kuirau Park and only a five minute walk to the central city, .provides an array of water activities. Choose from indoor or outdoor pools, the lazy river, splash pad and much more. The outdoor pool averages around 27 degrees in the summer season and 29 degrees in winter. The indoor pool has inflatables and a Tarzan swing and the 18 metre fun pool has two water cannons and water bikes! Children will love the lazy river which provides a continuous current around a central island with a water geyser and fog. There are family changing rooms, picnic areas, a children’s playground, and vending machines are available for ice creams, coffee, cold drinks and snacks.

Violent and unexpected, the volcanic eruption of Mount Tarawera was New Zealand ’s greatest natural disaster. It destroyed the eighth wonder of the world – the magnificent Pink and White Terraces. Now nearly 120 years on, this excavated village offers a first hand insight into the devastation, chaos and mayhem that transpired on the night Mount Tarawera erupted.
Sealed paths and ramps make pram and pushchair access easy around the linked sites of the village. Artifacts and remnants recovered from the village are on view in the museum , as well as displays on archaeology and vulcanology and a children’s discovery room. Guides will entertain you with songs and flax weaving demonstrations and there are farm animals, native birds and trout. A children’s playground will provide amusement for the younger children and there are highchairs, a baby changing facility and a tea room supplying wholesome snacks.

River Rats offers exhilarating whitewater rafting trips suitable for families and the less adventurous through to adrenalin pumping action! Whatever you are looking for, they have a rafting option for you. The Lower Rangitaiki Scenic Raft Trip which is suitable for children five and over, takes around one and a half hours (but allow six hours to include travelling time). Children under ten years must be accompanied by an adult. Pick up is approximately one hour before the trip which starts at the stunning Aniwhenua Falls. River Rats will supply equipment, food and drink and even a hot shower – all you need to bring are swimsuits and towels.
