A boutique mountain resort for snowboarders and skiers alike with plenty of activities for those just wanting to experience the snow. World-class terrain for first time riders through to advanced, a dedicated learners’ area, snow school, sledding, tubing night riding, ski/in ski/out apartments, plus the stunning family-friendly Woolshed Restaurant and Bar, allowing you to keep an eye on your children whilst you enjoy a meal or catch up with some work.
Whakapapa, on the north-western slopes of Mt Ruapehu, is New Zealand’s largest developed ski area. There are 30 groomed trails and a huge variety of off-piste areas which intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders will love. Happy Valley is a complete learners’ area that is separate to the main ski area so beginners can progress in a safe environment. For non-skiers who don’t want to miss out on playing in the snow have a tobogganing and tubing area for your sliding pleasure!

At just 25 minutes from Queenstown, Coronet Peak is the South Island’s most popular mountain resort. There’s heaps of fun for kids, from the state-of-the-art Skiwiland Crèche to the beginner slopes with handle tow and twin conveyor lifts, plus fantastic off-piste for the more intrepid! If you’ve never skied after sundown don’t miss Night Skiing, exclusive to Coronet Peak, Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm (July to mid Sept.). Kids 6 years and under receive free day passes.
Turoa is the highest ski area in New Zealand, but the road is fully sealed, two way, and suitable for campervans. 9 lifts gives access to 1200 acres of patrolled terrain and our longest run is 4km! Like Whakapapa, the beginner area at Turoa (Alpine Meadow), is separate to the main ski area so beginners can learn in a safe environment. However, strong skiers and boarders aren’t neglected….we have a huge variety of terrain, from open runs to gullies and cliffs.

Treble Cone is a exciting winter playground offering endless options for families who are either first timers or regular skiers and snowboarders. Our congestion free slopes and two chairlifts provide access to South Islands largest ski area in the Southern Alps. Known for its friendly atmosphere and relaxed feel this is a great family field – a fantastic sun trap with a large, wide, gentle beginner area, and a unique tubing park. The Skiwiland Crèche was revamped last season and capacity increased. The Remarkables offers lots for intermediates plus incredible off-piste powder runs.

Located high in the Southern Alps, Canterbury’s Mt Hutt Ski Area receives some of the lightest and driest powder in Australasia. Renowned for its laidback and rural atmosphere, Mt Hutt is family and beginner friendly. The slopes are wide and the runs varied.
Cardrona is the largest ski area easily accessed from Queenstown and New Zealand’s favourite family mountain!
