The Abel Tasman Seal Swim is true magic! The seals (Kekeno) are not fed or tamed, so their behaviour will vary according to the tide, wave conditions, water visibility, feeding pattern and stage of the season. 
Most days we will sight them in the water and interact with them – you are so up-close and personal, you'll feel like you're in a national geographic programme.

The Trip
Travel deep into the park with a 45 minute scenic Aqua Taxi ride through the world-renowned natural beauty of the Abel Tasman National Park. We pass dozens of stunning coves and golden sand beaches on our way. We swim in New Zealand’s warmest seal habitat. Tonga Island Marine Reserve has been a sanctuary and NZ fur seal breeding colony for 17 years. This is where we jump in! Our skilled and trained guides swim with you to ensure your safety. We have a fully equipped Aqua Taxi support boat on-hand throughout your swim. Before swimming, there is a full and in-depth safety briefing. With our small group numbers, your experience will be warm and personal. We are moved by the beauty of this area and the seals every day.

Trip Options:

Seal Swim: Aqua Taxi will take you on a 45 min scenic cruise up into Tonga Island Marine Reserve area. Your briefing takes place on beautiful Onetahuti beach. Following the briefing you wil be whisked over to Tonga Island by Aqua Taxi where you will experience a one hour low impact eco friendly swim with the seals kekeno.

We Provide: Quality 5mm wetsuits. Snorkel, mask, flippers and headgear.

You Bring: Sunscreen, warm top (wool/fleece), swimsuit, towel, insect repellent, wind jacket and camera, personal water bottle and something to eat. Please bring medication if you are prone to motion sickness.
