Kaiteriteri Kayak - Abel Tasman National Park
We are the only kayak company in the Abel Tasman to specialise in family kayak hire. It's simply a fabulous way to explore a stunning environment in peace and tranquility and it makes a fantastic and fun experience for the whole family. We are also the only kayak company to operate from Kaiteriteri Beach – the most sheltered area of the Abel Tasman and a perfect starting point for families and less-experienced kayakers. The coastline that we cover is not only sheltered but also compact. However the area retains all of the features associated with kayaking in the Abel Tasman - as well as the awesome Split Apple Rock!
Over 50 kilometres of coastline offering dozens of golden sand beaches to visit, while the many coves and lagoons provide plenty of interesting nooks and crannies to explore. Sea kayaking here also opens up a world of sea and bird life encounters with animals such as penguins, seals and dolphins. This is by far the most sheltered area of the Abel Tasman. This makes it a perfect kayak base for families or less experienced kayakers.
Families: paddle a double kayak which an adult controls from the rear. The child sits in the front. We generally require at least one adult per child. With older/stronger children exceptions can be made.
Sea Kayak Rentals
Ideal for first timers who want to experience kayaking in the Abel Tasman area but don’t want to commit to an option lasting longer than a few hours. Kaiteriteri Bay is known as one of the most safe and sheltered beaches in New Zealand.
We provide ultra stable double kayaks so you can explore the coves, islands and lagoons all found within the shelter of the bay.
We give you full instruction and provide all necessary safety equipment.
Great option for families. Minimum age 6 years, or 14 years + for out of bay kayak travel.
Duration: 1-4 hours
Family Classic ~ sit on top kayaks
We also offer ultra stable sit on top kayaks which can take one or two people. These are different from the conventional double we use for kayaking as the tops are open and safer for children.
Paddle around the bay and you may see blue penguins, shags and the odd stingray. Great way for children to experience the sea and build confidence.
We provide:
Kayak, life jacket, paddle, spray skirt, paddle jacket, dry box for cameras, detailed map, full safety briefing.
What you need to bring:
Water bottle, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, towel, swimsuit, warm top (wool or fleece) wind jacket, change of clothes, camera, any medication.
SUP Hire (Stand up Paddleboard)
With our funky beach office, fun guides and variety of water sports equipment, we can offer the perfect activities for families.
Whether you have 1 hour or all day, we can create some fun for you. Glide across the bay on a Stand-Up Paddle Board (SUP) or try out our new 8-person SUP. Ideal for groups and families. Very stable and lots of fun.
