Here's one of Hanmer Springs' most family-friendly activities - come visit our purpose-built nature park and cafe and get up close to our friendly farmyard and exotic pets! Our park is home to deer, nz pigs (the loveable but ugly kunekune!), rabbits, chickens and ducks, sheep, llamas and alpacas, donkeys, Scottish highland cattle, yak, emu, guinea pigs and goats.

Alpine Village Cruisers are the fun transport around Hanmer Springs! Built for 2 to 6 people you just sit back and pedal gently around the flat streets of Hanmer Springs Village. Enough storage to take a picnic and head to Hanmer Forest, or use as infant seats with seat belts.
Hanmer Springs is the ideal place to explore by bicycle. Quiet roads with stunning Alpine backdrops provide easy access to the mountain bike tracks, forest and hills around Hanmer Springs Village. The forest rides are particularly suited to families - you can ride from 20 mins to 2 hours around the weaving mountain bike tracks, and it's mostly flat.
Set in a breathtaking natural landscape, surrounded by forests and mountains, the award-winning Thermal Pools offers visitors a wide range of experiences, from soothing indulgence to exciting family fun. The Thermal Pools & Spa has nine open-air thermal pools, three sulphur pools and four private thermal pools, as well as a sauna/steam room.
Watch or swim with the dusky dolphins off the stunning Kaikoura Coast. Since the summer of 1989-90 Dolphin Encounter® has operated tours to visit the dusky dolphins found close to shore at Kaikoura. You can choose to view from the boat (min age 5) or swim in the dolphins’ natural environment (min age 8). If swimming, you will be provided with a wetsuit and this will be worn from the beginning of your trip. Showers and toilets onboard.
Gateway to the natural beauty of Hanmer Springs is the historical Waiau Ferry Bridge, home of Thrillseekers Canyon Adventure Centre. Our shop, cafe and activity base overlook the river, canyon and bridge and from here you can choose your adventure - from mild to wild! Most of our activities welcome children and family groups although minimum ages may apply.
Choose from bungy jumping (you can even jump as a parent/child combo!), whiltewater rafting, jetboating, off-road karts, quad biking and paintball.
Immerse yourself in the history and culture of the Maori with a mix of fun and learning. We offer an authentic experience full of the spirit of age old knowledge yet entirely of today. It is a boutique tour by mini coach where you will discover our history and understand how that shapes our fundamental relationship with the environment today.

Visit our shop, right in the centre of Hanmer Springs Village (opposite Heritage Hotel), and we'll organise your fun-filled day - quad bike trips to suit all ages, exploring Hanmer Springs by bicycle, learn the skill of archery, or we can book and advise on many other local activities. All activities can be booked on the same day.
