YMCA indoor climbing wall - Birthday Parties for children, Christchurch
The YMCA Christchurch Climbing Wall offers indoor climbing for all levels and ages. It's one of the largest walls in the South Island, with over 75 routes. The climbs range in difficulty from grade 12 to 20 and over. 70% are between grades 14 and 20, and while most children will find the lower grades a piece of cake and a whole heap of fun, we find that many quickly progress to our highest grades! Casual Climbing - please note that children aged 14 and under must be superviised. Cafe and toilets are on-site. Beginners' instruction always available. FUNKEE MONKEY CLIMBING CLUB - YMCA instructors will coach the Funkee Monkeys to climb better and safely in a fun and supportive environment. There will be opportunities to compete in Funkee Monkey club competitions, and regional and national climbing competitions if desired.
Junior Funkee Monkeys: 6 - 9 years
Junior Funkee Monkeys meet up for 8 weeks of every term on Modays from 5.15 - 6.15pm. Juniors must be accompanied by an Adult. Cost - $10 annual 2007 registration fee, plus: $6.50 per night (This includes entry and tuition. Equipment is provided free of charge.) Specials: $85 - Funkee Monkey Term Entry and unlimited climbing until the start of the next term (note. prices may vary each term to cover longer school holidays).
Annual pass $340 - All inclusive! Unlimited climbing 1 year from date of purchase.
Senior Funkee Monkeys: 10 - 18 years
Senior Funkee Monkeys meet up for 8 weeks of every term on Modays from 6.30 - 8.30pm. Cost: $10 annual 2007 registration fee, plus: $7.50 per night (This includes entry and tuition. BIRTHDAY PARTIES - Climbing on our indoor wall is an exciting experience your child will not forget! Come along and bring your family and friends. We provide instruction and gear hire.
Cost: $6 entry per child (Birthday child free of charge) Instruction: $40 per instructor per hour. Ratio: 1 instructor/12 children. Bookings: Essential.
SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES - Climbing for the kids during the holidays. We provide an instructor, safety harness and climbing shoes. Let us drive them up the wall!
Ages: 6 - 16 years* Cost: $10 per session. Times: 3pm - 5pm Tuesdays during holidays Register at reception or online through the Holiday Programme page. Bookings must be made at least 2 days before programme.
* Please note that if a child is younger than 9 years of age a parent/caregiver will need to accompany the child for the session.
OTHER PROGRAMMES
There is little doubt that physical activity, when combined with adventure, is an effective tool for developing self-esteem, trust, motivation, determination, self-awareness and confidence - particularly in young people. It is amazing how a change in scenery can bring out hidden qualities and capabilities! The YMCA staff provide quality adventure activities for all ages, cultures and abilities. Activities your child can participate in include the following: abseiling, indoor climbing, team building games, kayaking, adventure days, orienteering and rock climbing.
